Alabama Association of Healthcare Access Management

Past Messages from the President...

The 2007 Summer Conference took place July 18th through July 20th in beautiful Orange Beach, Al. We had a hefty agenda and great attendance by both regular members and vendors. If you missed the conference this year, you missed some really good information. Budget and make plans to attend the 2008 Summer Conference. So long as the weather holds, we’re planning to return to the beach!

The Executive Board members continue to work to improve the benefits of membership in the organization. We received feedback from some of you and are currently acting on it. Our first step was revamping the website. It is our goal to publish a newsletter that will address topics near and dear to the hearts of Access professionals. In that newsletter we would like to also spotlight a hospital! The newsletter will be emailed and will be available on the website. Please be looking for the first edition within the next couple of weeks.

With the new year around the corner (hard to believe with this summer heat) we are in the early planning phase of the Winter Meeting. If you will recall this is the meeting where an insurance panel is presented. This meeting has always proven a success and is usually well attended by the insurance companies. At the summer conference, we asked for volunteers to host the meeting. Helen Keller volunteered first and I am in the process of confirming the dates with them.

We will also have a change in leadership in January 2008. Debbie Thompson, our current Vice President, will assume the President’s role. She will preside over the winter meeting! Debbie has been a great member and will work really hard to uphold the duties assigned. ALAHAM needs you! We will have three open positions: Secretary/Membership Chair, Treasurer, and Vice President. Please be watching your email for information on the duties of each position and nomination information. While we’ve all enjoyed serving we would love to have more participation from you all. Consider running for office and getting involved!

Lastly, as exiting President, I would like to thank you all for your support of ALAHAM and me. I have served ALAHAM in many capacities but being your President has been by far the best! I would love to see our membership increase. I look forward to continuing my service as Past President and witnessing the organization evolve.

Sincerely,
Tara Tinsley, CHAM

Message from the President

Dear ALAHAM Members:

We’ve all survived the busy winter season and are preparing for the challenges spring brings. The ALAHAM Executive Board has been working to renew memberships, build a better and more useful website, and planning the 2007 Summer Conference.

We had a successful Winter Meeting on January 19th. Our annual Winter Meeting focuses on the insurance industry. Attendees received updates from major insurance payers, like Blue Cross, Medicare, United Healthcare, and Cigna. They also had the opportunity to ask questions regarding claims processing, denials, and pre-certification requirements. We even had a Human Resource presentation on hiring. Thanks to our immediate past president, Donilda McMahan, for coordinating this event at Shelby Baptist!

Alabama was well represented at the annual SEHAM Conference, Feb 28th –Mar 2nd. This conference provides an opportunity for Access professionals to network with others from approximately 6 states. The agenda jam packed with useful information from revenue cycle management to personnel management. Vendor representation was outstanding! Thank you to Maxine Wilson and other affiliates for organizing this educational three day conference. Sam’s Town is never the same after this group!

Your ALAHAM Executive Boards members have been meeting to plan the 2007 Summer Conference which will be July 18th -20th. We are excited that we are able to keep the conference in beautiful Orange Beach! Our growth over the years presents challenges in planning though. We will be returning Phoenix VI and VII. After submitting proposals to other locations, Phoenix was the only property able to accommodate us. They are in the midst of constructing a new property that will hopefully be ready by our 2008 conference and will be able to house all of our events in one building. Please be on the look out for the registration packets. Don’t miss the early bird discount and make sure your dues are paid before the conference!

A huge thank you to Teresa Gilbert for accepting the task of rebuilding our website. It looks absolutely wonderful! Please stop by and visit us at www.alaham.net. We plan to expand the information provided on the website and welcome any suggestions you may have to improve it. Yes, summer conference registration will be available via the website as well.

Additionally, the $25 Wal-Mart gift cards for the membership drive will me mailed within the next. Congratulations to Julia Griffin, Merrick Chandler, Lee Patillo, and Shirley Payne for their efforts in recruiting members. Our growth depends on you! Spread the word about ALAHAM and provide the board members with feedback as to how we can make it better.

Lastly, please consider getting more involved with ALAHAM. The office of Vice President, Secretary/Membership Chair, and Treasurer will all be up for grabs this year. Check the website for more details as well as be on the look out as information will be mailed to you within the coming months.

On behalf of the board, I’d like you all to know it is a pleasure serving this organization. Healthcare is ever changing; avenues to network and learn are of utmost importance. We are here to serve you and want you to be happy. Please provide feedback as to how we can improve. We hope to see you in July at Orange Beach!

Sincerely,

Tara Tinsley, CHAM
